In four trips to Bali, I’d never been to Kuta or Legian – these are its busiest areas, and typically that doesn’t suit my travel style. But I consider myself something of an expert on Bali at this point – and it didn’t seem right to leave a whole (massively popular) region off my list just because of my preconceived notions. So when Ossotel reached out to me about a visit to Legian, I jumped at the opportunity.
Truthfully, Legian was every bit as crazy as I expected – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. This town is Bali’s hub – absolutely packed with restaurants, bars, shopping — and swarming with backpackers, families, holidaying couples, etc. It’s full-on, it’s exciting, it’s POPPIN. You won’t be bored here, that’s for sure.
Ossotel turned out to be the perfect home base for exploring the area. The hotel itself was an oasis in the middle of a very happening street. And it had the comfiest bed – and the coolest pool setup – of any hotel I stayed at all month. In fact, I enjoyed my two-night stay much that I’m going out of my way to come back when I’m in Bali next.

The Hotel + Rooms
Ossotel is a solidly mid-range hotel, making it a great option for budget-conscious travelers who are still looking for style and comfort. Value-for-money, it absolutely can’t be beat. The amenities are absolutely fantastic and there are lovely touches like a turn-down service and welcome treats. The rooms are spotlessly clean, bright, and modern – with by far the most comfortable beds I slept in Bali!
The hotel offers three room types – Superior Rooms (the standard option), Deluxe Pool Rooms with direct access to the pool, and three Suites with private terraces. All of the rooms are spacious, modern, and comfortably furnished, so you really can’t go wrong.
I personally would suggest one of the Deluxe Pool rooms, where I stayed. My room had a sliding glass door at the rear that opened directly to a private pool area with a day bed. This meant I could literally jump straight into the pool from my room. It was an absolutely brilliant design, and I left wondering why on EARTH this isn’t a more common feature at hotels.
The Pool
If I haven’t already made it clear, Ossotel has hands down the best pool setup of any hotel I’ve stayed at… ever. The pool spans the full length of the hotel – at 88 yards, it’s nearly the length of a football field!
There are thoughtful touches throughout the entire pool area. For example, there are tons of loungers placed conveniently along the full walkway, so no matter where your room is located you never have to go far to grab a seat.
Best of all, every single lounger has a button next to its side table. If you press it, someone will head over to take your drink + food order. AMAZING. This hotel is truly living in 3019.
The Food | Romeos Bar & Grill
Romeos Bar & Grill, located on the hotel property, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They serve a mix of dishes including Indonesian classics like Nasi Goreng, or Western options like crispy pork belly with zucchini blossoms!
I tried an embarrassingly extensive portion of their menu, and am happy to report it was all AMAZING. The included breakfast was great; they have a large selection of hot + cold foods set out buffet style, plus a selection of mains like french toast or pancakes. Because I am a slob, I not only requested my breakfast to be delivered to my room, I ordered two mains (my booking included breakfast for two, so… yeah). I got the pancakes and the Croque Madame, which were both delicious.
For dinner I tried out the fried calamari to start (sooo yum, and a perfect fry), plus the maple bacon Manhattan, which came topped with a piece of crispy bacon! Amazing. For my main I had the braised beef cheeks with mashed potatoes and a chilli gorgonzola butter, which was absolutely outrageous and melt-in-your-mouth tender.
The Staff
Ossotel had the absolute nicest staff of any hotel I visited in Bali. They were incredible – seriously so friendly, helpful, and genuine. I liked them so much and had such a nice time that I’m even following a few on Instagram now! It’s that kind of environment – unbelievably welcoming and genuine.
I had the chance to grab dinner with their marketing manager at Romeos and she was an absolute delight. I got the real sense that the hotel operates like a family.
The Location + Things to Do Nearby
Ossotel is located just off a bustling street full of restaurants and shops. Initially I was concerned the noise might be an issue in the hotel. Fortunately, the rooms are set back enough – or well-constructed enough – that literally no noise filters in from the street. It was quiet, peaceful, and I slept like a baby.
Its location was a huge perk for exploring the area as Legian is very walkable. Ossotel is located just a couple minutes walk from Legian Beach, and they have an area reserved just for hotel guests complete with loungers and umbrellas.
There’s tons to do in the area including Waterbom waterpark, tons of street markets, the shopping centre Discovery Mall, and the Dream Museum Zone, which is an interactive art gallery.
Legian is a walkable city more than anything. Ossotel’s location is smack in the middle of the action, so I set out without any specific destination and just started walking.
Ossotel Legian ended up being one of my favorite hotel stays in Bali. If you’re hoping to find a quiet place to unwind while visiting Legian, I couldn’t recommend Ossotel more highly! I will be back for sure and so looking forward to my next visit.
